Co-Curriculars
Appleton Area School District encourages our students to participate in co-curriculars at every grade level.
Not only these activities a great way to connect with classmates and get involved in the community, but they also develop lifelong skills such as teamwork and time management, which are essential for future success.
“The activity of the child has always been looked upon as an expression of his vitality.”

APM Running Club
Running Club takes place twice a year during the fall and spring. We meet twice a week from 3:45-4:15. Running Club is designed for students of all abilities, whether they would prefer to walk, jog or run at a brisk pace. We have supervisors and parent volunteers that participate at all different paces so there is always an adult with each group of students.
We are very lucky to be located inside Plamann Park and we enjoy utilizing the beautiful paved trails we have out here! Last fall (of 2013) was our first year and we completed our fall running season with the Santa Scamper (a one mile run before the Appleton Christmas Parade)! We all had a blast and are looking forward to completing our spring season with a 5K event! Running is our World.
Basketball Camp
The camps aim to teach kids the game of basketball in a fun-filled environment with the hope of building self-confidence, skill level, and a love for the game. We're offering the camps for E1 and E2 only.
Two different sessions are offered-Basketball Basics for Beginners and Basketball Drills and Skills (Intermediate level). During the Basketball Basics for Beginners session, students learn the fundamentals of the game of basketball: dribbling, passing, shooting, offense, defense, court awareness/terminology. This camp is perfect for children new or newer to the game!
During the Basketball Drills and Skills session, students will enhance individual skills and teamwork through drills, competition, and goal setting. This camp is perfect for children who have been through basketball basics, or have some experience playing sports in a team setting
Clubs
Yoga Club
Many Montessori schools are now using yoga exercises as a physical and mental activity to support intellectual and emotional growth. There are many similarities between yoga and Montessori. Both have a calming and centering effect on the child, both build peace from the inside out, yoga is a process like the work they in the classroom, and yoga is non-competitive placing emphasis on growth and not perfection.
In yoga club at APM, we emphasize the virtues through yoga poses that support individual and community growth. Our yoga club is offered to students in Kindergarten through 6th grade. The Kindergartners and E1 students experience a class that is built around playfulness with an emphasis on storytelling, games, visualizations, breathing, relaxation techniques and fun, safe yoga poses. The E2 students learn yoga poses that aim to increase their strength and flexibility. They practice body awareness, breathing exercises, visualizations, sequencing, balancing poses, and relaxation.
Service Club
At present students on the Club are serving to greet children as they enter school, assist our kindergarten children at the end of the day in getting ready to go home, and raising and lowering the flag daily. Throughout the year the Service Club takes part in different activities, such as visiting the residents at a local nursing home.
Chinese Club
This is a two month long club in which students are taught the Chinese Language. This club is open to any interested E1 or E2 student.
Game Club
Game Club meets once a month to sample a variety of different games! Different organizations bring in games for the students to try. Children of all grades are able to participate in this club.
Craft Club
Craft Club is open to E2 students and meets once a week from November through December. The students are provided with a variety of different materials, such as mason jars, buttons, fabrics, etc. to make their holiday craft.
Fine Arts
String students have the opportunity to play in our established or student-organized ensembles, giving them the chance to build deep listening skills and share in the joy of music-making with other instrumentalists. Our 5th and 6th grade students perform every year at the PAC with an all-district orchestra, playing both Suzuki repertoire and orchestral literature.
Students have the opportunity to study violin, viola, or cello starting in 4th grade, and take one or two group lessons per week.
